A memorial service for Floyd Eugene Goldbloom, 96, of North Bend will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 2 at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 400 Highland Ave., in Coos Bay. A private interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

Floyd was born June 30,1920 in Wheaton, Minn., to Edward and Catherine Goldbloom. He passed away April 18, 2017 at his home in North Bend.

Floyd moved to the Coos Bay area prior to school age and lived in the Bay Area for the remainder of his life. Through his school years, he lived on Kentuck Inlet and graduated from North Bend High School in 1937.

Floyd was in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Much of his service was spent in Roswell, N.M. working on training aircraft. He also was part of the occupying force in Japan at the end of the war prior to his honorable discharge.

In 1946, Floyd married Beryl Pierson. They lived in North Bend until their third child was born in 1953, at which time they moved to Coos Bay. He lived in the same house overlooking Mingus Park until 2013 when he moved to Inland Point in North Bend.

Floyd worked in various capacities as a carpenter. During his career, he spent some time as co-owner of Acme Lumber Company and as a construction trades teacher at Marshfield High School. During the latter part of his career, Floyd worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker for the Coos Bay School District.

He enjoyed all types of woodworking, and in his later years especially liked building clocks. He enjoyed playing games and sharing time with friends, many of whom had remained closely associated since grade school. Floyd also was an avid reader with an active mind through his entire life.

He is survived by his three children, Tina Foster, Brian Goldbloom and Ed Goldbloom; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Beryl Goldbloom.
