Edward Joseph Aurdahl Feb. 19, 1927 - Sept. 29, 2016
A graveside service for Edward Joseph Aurdahl, 89, of Coos Bay will be held Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park 63060 Millington Frontage Road, Coos Bay.

Edward was born Feb. 19, 1927 in Minneapolis, Min. the son of Edward A. and Margaret (Wintheiser) Aurdahl and died Sept. 29, 2016 in Coos Bay.

He grew up during the great depression in Minneapolis, Minn. He went to grade school at Holy Rosary, and helped his father work on a large turkey farm raising 25,000 turkeys. At the age of 16, he enlisted in the U.S. National Guard. At 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in 1944. While serving in Okinawa he was an MP and was stationed on several islands in the Pacific until the end of the war. Edward was able to come home and his grandfather introduced him to the woman who would become his wife of 68 years, Gladys Marie Marcott; they were married April 3, 1948 and moved to the wonderful Oregon coast to start a family of their own. At that time, still being in the U.S. Marine reserves, he was called back to service for the Korean war in 1950, earning the rank of sergeant and leading a team of 5 men as a tank commander. After the end of the Korean war, he came back to his new home in Coos Bay. He worked as a planer feeder in the saw mill for 25 years. After the mill closed, he worked for North Bend Medical Center in housekeeping until he retired. In retirement, he enjoyed working around the property, watching football, and spending time with the dogs while sipping coffee.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Marcott) Aurdahl of Coos Bay; sister, DeLoris (Aurdahl) Urness of Minneapolis, Min.; 2 sons, Reed and wife, Diane (Archer) Aurdahl  and Alan and wife, Connie (Nunn) Aurdahl, all of Coos Bay; grandchildren, Brian and Missi Aurdahl of Coos Bay; Kyle and Jolene Aurdahl of Caldwell, Idaho; Clint and Zara (Aurdahl) Korinsky of Hillsboro; and Elliott and Cortney Aurdahl of Corvallis; 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Aurdahl and son, Colin Edward Aurdahl.
