Dorothy was born Dec. 18, 1918, in Salinas, Calif., to Charles J. and Esther O. (Nelson) Knox. She passed away peacefully Jan. 7, 2015, in Redmond, Wash.

The family moved to Marshfield when she was 2 years old and she had resided on Lockhart Avenue for the past 94 years. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1936, as valedictorian and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Johnston Kingsley in 1940.Together they raised four daughters, Diane, Janie, Anne and Jeanne. Dorothy was involved in the community and worked as a bookkeeper most of her life; retiring from Huggins Insurance/Commercial Securities in 1980. She also was an active member of St. Monica Catholic Church and spent 25 years as a dedicated Campfire leader. She enjoyed the arts and was very involved in the Community Concert Association. Dorothy was very talented and loved working with her hands, creating beautiful quilts, embroidery, and porcelain dolls, leaving behind many handmade remembrances that will be cherished always.

She is survived by her four daughters, Diane Thrift and husband, Clyde, Janie Blakely, Anne Kingsley-Beeson and husband, Vern and Jeanne Goldbloom and husband, Ed; seven grandsons, Scott and Kirk Thrift, Ryan and Christopher Blakely, Phillip Beeson, Matt and Nate Goldbloom; and 16 great-grandchildren. She loved her family more than anything and was actively involved in all of our lives until the end. We will miss her dearly, but know our hearts will always hold her close.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tommy; and sister, Bette Hanen.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Marshfield High School and Community Scholarship Fund, 10th & Ingersoll, Coos Bay, OR 97420; and the Betty Knox-Hanen Nursing Scholarship, P.O. Box 1541, Coos Bay, OR 97420.
