A celebration of life for Barbara Austin Bishop, 82, formerly of Coos Bay, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 3 at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Ave. in Coos Bay with the Rev. Laura Beville, of Harmony United Methodist Church, officiating, followed by a brief graveside service at Ocean View Memory Gardens, 1525 Ocean Blvd., in Coos Bay. A reception will be held at 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 2080 Marion St., in North Bend.

Barbara Jean was born March 10, 1935 to Herbert and Martha Austin in Dewey, Okla., the 11th of 14 children. She passed away Jan. 18, 2018 in Tacoma, Wash.

After Barbara was born, the family soon moved to Coos Bay, where she graduated from Marshfield High School. At age 16, Barbara met the love of her life, Ron Bishop. They were an amazing team during 65 years of marriage. Ron will dearly miss his partner and best friend. Barbara belonged to the Methodist church, was active in Coos County Literacy Council, loved travel, and retired from Coos Bay School District. With Ron, they owned Western Shores Office Supply. Barbara’s favorite role, though, was as mother and grandmother. In 2000, they moved to Tacoma, Wash., to be near their beloved kids.

Her loss leaves a hole in the hearts of daughter, Ronda and husband, Scott Shelton; grandchildren, Alyssa Shelton, Andy and wife, Casee Shelton; great-granddaughter, Molly; cherished siblings, sister, Bunny  and husband, Darrell Bishop and brother, Darrel and wife, Chris Austin; as well as sisters-in-law, Dollie and Louise Austin.
