Theodore Fischer Obituary

Theodore (Ted) D. Fischer died on May 2, 2021, at Ivy Lane Assisted Living in Surprise, Arizona. He was 84. Ted was born to Margaret and Theodore Fischer in North Bend, Oregon on March 8, 1937. He was raised in Coos Bay, Oregon, graduated from Marshfield High School and was a member of the 1954 State Co-Championship Football Team. He also played basketball and went on to play for the Oregon Technical Institute(now Oregon Institute of Technology). He scored 42 points in one game and helped the team win the 1957 Conference Championship. Soon after, in 1958, he married Donna Jo McCrary.

Ted and Donna raised four children in Coos Bay, where Ted worked as a carpenter and foreman for Baughman and Company. In 1981, Ted and Donna divorced. Over his career, Ted managed several different large construction projects. As a result of the recessions in the early 1980’s, Ted left Coos Bay, seeking employment elsewhere, and eventually built a home in Portland, Oregon, where he worked for a number of companies until his retirement.

In 1989, while in Portland, Ted married Pauline DeRoos. Ted and Pauline became snowbirds to Surprise, Arizona in 2003,before moving to Surprise fulltime.

Ted was a loving and faithful father, who worked hard to provide for his family and encourage and model an active lifestyle and recreation. Most importantly he spiritually led his family in the Christian faith. Ted was predeceased by his sisterDoreen Stratford and is survived by his wife, Pauline andbrother Gerald (Marlene Kay) Fischer. His children include Ronald (Selena) Fischer, Douglas (Elizabeth) Fischer, Kenneth (Sandra) Fischer, and Daniel (Lisa) Fischer. His step children include Dan (Julie) DeRoos, Patsy (Greg, deceased) Lyman, and Mona (Tim) Jaeger. Ted and Pauline have been blessed to have 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will take place at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Surprise on Saturday, June 26, at 10 AM. The service will be live-streamed on Zoom (https://kansas.zoom.us/j/94222153070, Passcode: 54321) and will also be recorded and available on the church YouTube channel(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeydt7g9Pfi25hFdc2L5O6A). Donations (in lieu of flowers) may be sent in Ted’s memory to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
