Nancy Ellen Doreen Fisher Obituary

Nancy Ellen Doreen Fisher passed away at 7:25 p.m., October 25, 2024 at her home in Coos Bay, Oregon after battling metastatic breast cancer.

Nancy, one of twelve children, was born January 9, 1964 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter to Homer Lugene Hammers and Effie Iona (Good) Hammers.

Nancy grew up in Merlin, Oregon and attended Manzanita Elementary, Fleming Jr. High and North Valley High School. From 1982 to 1987 Nancy lived in California, Nebraska and Oregon and was blessed with three children: Joseph Nigel, Ashley Lynn and Gary Eugene. In 1988 Nancy and her family moved to Iowa. They lived in several different towns throughout the years before settling in Stanton where she finished raising her children. Nancy had several jobs throughout her life from waitressing to teaching preschool. In March of 2008 she was finally able to pursue her passion and started her own business, Sweet Occasions, as a cake designer.

Nancy was a music lover and listened to a wide variety from classical to rock; Patsy Cline and Collective Soul were two of her favorites. Nancy really enjoyed spending time in nature and was a lover of animals, especially cats and chickens, and also enjoyed fishing. Nancy also enjoyed celebrating the holidays, especially Halloween where she helped her children with their costumes and would even dress up herself. She also loved Christmas and all the decorations and seeing how happy her children were on Christmas morning. After her children were grown, Nancy returned to Oregon, where she later met Jamie Sumner. Together, they fulfilled Nancy’s dream of living on the coast by purchasing a home in Coos Bay, Oregon.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sisters, Marcella Hammers and Joyce Stewart; brothers, Richard Fisher and Michael Fisher; and brothers-in-law, Howard Stewart, Randy Childs and Keith Jones.

Nancy is survived by her significant other, Jamie Sumner; children, Joseph Torgerson and wife, Staci; Ashley Fisher and fiancé, John Klein; and  Gary Graham and fiancée, Danielle Espinosa; grandchildren, Gerad; Genna; Madalynn; Hannah; Tanner; Kody and Nathaniel; step- children, Taylor Sumner and Kelsey Sumner; and step-grandchildren, Asher and Riot; brothers, Johnnie Fisher and wife, Donna; Jeffrey Wesson; Clyde Hammers and Nathan Hammers; sisters, Betsy Childs; Lori Hammers and Sheila Jones; sister-in-law, Dixie Fisher; brother-in-law, Kevin Rivers; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her cat, Purr.

No public services will be held. The immediate family will have a celebration of life at a later date to spread her ashes.
