Mary Blaylock Obituary

Mary Catherine Blaylock, 70, passed away peacefully March 16, 2026, in Coos Bay, Oregon.

She will be deeply missed for the joy, laughter, and warmth she brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Born on June 24, 1955, in Coos Bay, Oregon, Mary spent her entire life in the community she called home.

Mary will be fondly remembered for the genuine love she felt for her family and many friends. Her infectious laughter and warm personality brightened every room she entered. A thoughtful soul, Mary never missed an opportunity to make others feel special, remembering every birthday and holiday with care.

Her love extended beyond people to animals as well. Mary's dogs were a constant source of happiness for her and were often seen accompanying her on walks through the community she knew so well.

An active and adventurous spirit defined Mary’s life. She enjoyed bowling, walking, camping, caring for her dogs, and spending time at the beach. Her independence and strength were hallmarks of her character; she faced life's challenges with grace and determination while remaining deeply connected to family and friends.

Throughout her life, Mary held various jobs that reflected her diverse interests. She worked at St. Catherine's nursing home and as a lab assistant but found particular joy in her role at the Coos Bay library. Restocking shelves and maintaining order brought her immense satisfaction —she would often say with pride, "I loved it!"

In the final months of her life, Mary found happiness in purchasing a new home—a mint-green haven she adored.

She is survived by her two sisters, Maureen Jackson and Margaret Rickels, as well as her cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Beryl Strouts; her brother, Steven Strouts; and her beloved husband of nearly 30 years, Pete Blaylock.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 1pm, Saturday, April 25 at Star Services, 1125 S. 1st Street in Coos Bay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Star of Hope in Coos Bay, Oregon or to the Oregon Humane Society.

May Mary Catherine Blaylock’s memory inspire all who knew her to live with the same love and laughter she so generously shared.
