Louis Eugene Hartley, 80, of Coos Bay, entered into God’s kingdom September 27, 1943, to Truman and Ethel Eggers Hartley.
He was a loving brother, father, grandfather and friend and is survived by his son, Shane and his grandchildren, John, Remington and Brennan. Also, his brother, Harold and sister, Sharon. He was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly.
Growing up, Lou’s fondest memories were of fishing on the Rogue River with his dad. Upon graduating from Myrtle Point High School, he went to work in the woods for Weyerhaeuser and then later was drafted into the Vietnam War and served as a dog handler in Germany for the Army.
In 1975, Lou graduated from the Police Academy and became a deputy sheriff of Coos County. He was the 7th police dog handler in Oregon, accredited by the state’s Bureau of Police Standards and Training. Lou’s police dog was a German shepherd named Bino.
In 1981, Lou started up his own business, Active Pest Control, which is still in business today and is owned and operated by his son, Shane.
Lou was a very strong person. He suffered many trials in the last years of his life but always managed to keep a positive attitude. He loved Jesus and his family. He also loved to tell jokes… if he could get someone to laugh, his day was made. There are so many things the family would like to say, but to know Lou, was to love him. Have a snickers bar in remembrance of him. He would love it!
Lou’s wishes were for the family to hold a private service for him, so there will be no public services.
