Katelynn, better known as Katie, was born June 6, 2000 in Coos Bay, Oregon to Leah Scott and Larry Benson. She passed away February 5, 2022 in Coos Bay, Oregon.
Katie grew up in Coos Bay, living with her mom Leah; brother, Zach and sister, Abby. She also has two brothers she visited with frequently, Trevis and Caleb.
Katie loved doing her make-up, going on beach runs, watching the sunset, camping with her family, hanging out with friends, and sleeping. Some of Katie’s favorite things were animals, she loved her pets, the color yellow, rocks – something she collected her whole life, candles – another favorite she started collecting at a very young age, anything tie-dye, and going on drives, as she loved just driving.
Katie was a kind, loving, funny, beautiful girl who told it like it was from day one. She never held back whether it was good or bad.
Katie was involved in swimming, basketball, soccer, and volleyball when she was in grade school and in junior high, she switched to band, where she played the flute and the saxophone. She was a natural and quickly became part of the honor band. Katie graduated from Marshfield High School in June 2018.
Katie was always a hard worker, whether helping around the house, in the yard or at one of the several jobs she had.
Katie is survived by her mother and stepfather, Leah and Sean Scott of Coos Bay; father, Larry Benson of Coos Bay; four siblings, Zach Thrall of Lebanon, Abby Gaither of Lebanon, Trevis Benson of North Bend, Caleb Benson of Coos Bay; brother- in- law, Brandon Gaither of Lebanon; nephew, Walton Gaither of Lebanon; niece, Zoey Benson of North Bend; grandparents, Harry and Sherri Mollier of California; great-aunt, Pat Ross of Redmond and many aunts and uncles along with numerous cousins.
Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jerry and Connie Hazel of Coos Bay; cousin, Harrison of Utah and great-grandparents, Harry and Virginia Renfro of Coos Bay.
