A memorial celebration for Joan Betty Granum, 88, of Coos Bay, will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the Bon Appetit Event Center, 63330 Boat Basin Road in Charleston.
Joan Betty was born January 19, 1935 in Galesburg, Illinois, to Elmer Felix and Dorothy Amber (Hammond) Segal. She passed away quietly at her home in Allegany, Oregon, October 13, 2023.
Joan graduated from Galesburg High School, where she was an active member of the swim team. She lived in many places throughout her life that included Oregon, Louisiana and the country of Colombia.
Joan married Joe Freeman Pugh December 28, 1952 and together they had two children, Christine and Timothy Pugh. Joe preceded her in death July 4, 1999.
She was a medical transcriptionist, as well as an owner of several vessels, and up to 5 large boats at one time, during her 46 years in the fishing industry.
She retired from her transcriptionist career in 1998 and as a boat owner in 2008. She loved having and tending to her garden all year long. Joan married Walter Granum August 11, 2009.
She was loved by all those who knew her and will be deeply missed.
Joan is survived by her son, Timothy J. Pugh of Colombia, South America; daughter, Christine (Sonny) Querry of Coos Bay; grandchildren, Timi Lee Ruiz Pugh (Armando Ruiz) of Coquille, Andrew J. Pugh of Portland, Timothy C. Pugh of Portland, Cheri (Mark) Allison and Nicole Mayer; step-grandchildren, Jerry Zapata of Portland, and Courtney Freitag; great grandchildren, Kody Allison, McKenzie Allison, Brody Mayer and Macee Mayer, Mia Ruiz and Armando Ruiz Jr.; step-great grandchildren, Kyle Freitag and Raelyn Freitag; as well as two great-great grandchildren.
