Gary L. Schmith Obituary

A memorial service for Gary L. Schmith, 78, of Coos Bay, will be held at 1pm, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene, 886 S 4th Street in Coos Bay, with Pastor Ron Halvorson, officiating.

Gary was born March 17, 1943 in Reno, Nevada to Louis and Della Schmith. He passed away July 18, 2021 in Coos Bay.

Gary spent 50 years living in and around the Reno area. He has one brother, Roy who is 2 years younger. Gary graduated from Reno High School and enlisted in the United States Marines.

He was a lifetime member of the Good Sam Club and served as an assistant state director in Oregon. He was also a member of the North Bend Lions since 2010, where he served as Vice- President and President. Gary loved helping out the community and always enjoyed selling See’s candy during the holidays.

Gary worked in the construction business for most of his life as a carpenter. He also worked in apartment management and maintenance until his retirement in 2009. Gary and wife, Sheila were married for 35 years and repeated their vows in April of this year.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila; his children, Stephen Schmith, Anthony Anderson, Jamie Schmith, Angela Schmith and Becky Ruiz; as well as 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his son, Jodie Schmith.
