Elizabeth "Liz" Coke Obituary

A special soul passed from this world to the next on May 24, 2018, just one month shy of her 97th birthday.

Liz was born in Tennessee to Edgar and Cora Lena Wallen on June 23, 1921. She was raised there and in Wyoming where she met and married Ben, the ‘love of her life’ in 1940. They pioneered to Coos Bay with their young daughter in 1946 to make a new start.

She can best be described as independent, spiritual, elegant, creative, artistic, animal lover, and a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend.

During her lifetime she was active in many organizations, golfed, bowled, boated and liked to dance. She helped build and decorate Ben’s unique homes and they later owned The Fireplace Shop in North Bend. They loved jetting off to faraway places, visited Hawaii over a dozen times, and even lived in Maui for several years. Her adventuresome nature included a trip to Canada with friends on Harley motorcycles, parasailing in Mexico and sampling the many tropical delights in Tahiti. In the 90’s they regularly took their 5th wheel to California and Arizona to enjoy friends and the sunny weather.

Liz enjoyed a 70+ year career as an exceptional and prolific artist of thousands of beautiful paintings on many subjects, using various mediums and was very well known in the local area.

Ben and Liz had a long loving marriage that lasted almost 72 years. She lived independently in her home for the last five years since Ben’s death in 2012. She recently suffered a terrible fall and could not recover.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Terry Shore of Eugene, her grandson Darin, his wife Susan, and great-grandson Tyler of Maui, niece Deanna of California, numerous other nieces and nephews and many friends.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ben, sister Mildred, brother Robert and grandson Cory.

At her request, there will be no service, but she can be remembered by donations to local art associations and art galleries and the Bandon Animal Rescue that found her cat, Cali, a new loving home.
