Leila ‘Eileen” King

Eileen was born to Leila W. Fisher and Paul Q. Fisher on October 23, 1953, at Keizer Hospital, North Bend. She had an older brother at home, Paul D. Fisher.

She was raised in Charleston Community Church, where her mother was an active member. She attended Charleston School, Michigan Avenue School, now Sunset Middle School and Marshfield High School, graduating in 1971 with one of the largest graduating classes in MHS history.

During her early teen years, she became interested in Horsemanship and with her father’s encouragement, they bought one, then two and finally three horses. With one horse named Buck, she joined 4H with Buck as her 4H project.

It was while she was out for a ride on Buck that she first met Darrell. She was visiting several of her friends at a Charter Fishing office next door to the Coast Guard Station. Darrell saw “the cutest thing I’d ever seen” riding up to the charter office. He asked Marsha Johns, “Who is that?”  Marsha answered, “Oh, that’s Eileen, be careful!”

As she hopped down off of this 17 hands tall horse, Darrell started a conversation that went on for another 54 years. He asked Eileen out for a date, and she reluctantly agreed. Several days later, Darrell met her at her house. Their first date was riding horses on the beach..

Their love progressed and they were married April 15, 1972. In August, 1976, their first  son Dennis was born, followed by the birth of Brian in October, 1977.

Darrell worked in as a Police Officer beginning in 1976, while Eileen maintained the most difficult job as the spouse of a police officer for the next 28 years.

Eileen was able to use her organizational skills as Director of College Park Daycare, Tribal Council Secretary for the CTCLUSI tribe and finally as an advisor for the State of Oregon Human Services.

After retirement, they enjoyed traveling with their dogs in their travel trailer in the southwest and mountain states.

Eileen was able to overcome several significant medical challenges during the past years, finally finding victory to her new Home in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 10, at 3:00PM at the First Baptist Church 1140 S. 10th St. Coos Bay with Pastor James Alexander officiating. Cremation rites and inurnment have been held at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematory, Coos Bay under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel 685 Anderson Ave. 541-267-3131. www.coosbayareafuneralsl.coom
