“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” - Micah 6:8
Earl Eugene Ackland
July 10, 1936 – May 6, 2026
Earl Ackland, age 89 of Coos Bay, Oregon, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2026, with his loving wife Linda by his bedside. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. A man of unwavering faith, Earl lived his life as a testament to the grace of God. He and his family were blessed to attend Hauser Community Church for 46 years.
He was born in his Grandma Faxon’s front bedroom in Albany, Oregon, the eldest of four children. He graduated in 1954 from Lebanon Union High School in Lebanon, Oregon. He served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 and was aboard the heavy cruiser USS Columbus (CA-74). Earl achieved the rank of Hospital Corpsman, Second Class and received a Good Conduct Medal. While aboard the Columbus and running from a typhoon, the ship took a wave and came within one degree of capsizing. From 1958 to 1962, Earl attended Puget Sound College of the Bible in Seattle, Washington, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts - Ministerial. Earl then attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon until 1967 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology. Earl subsequently went on to obtain his Bachelor and Master degrees in Education from the University of Oregon.
In 1963, Earl married Linda Jeanne McLarrin. God gifted them with their first child (Lori Anne) in 1965, and their second child (William Earl) arrived in 1967. In 1969, Earl and family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon where he took a job with the Coos Bay School District and taught for 28 years as an elementary teacher.
Earl’s greatest joy was his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, followed by his family. He is survived by Linda his beloved wife of 62 years. He leaves behind a legacy of faith through his family, including his daughter and her husband (Lori and Douglas Lange of Fairbanks, Alaska), and his son and his wife (William and Diana Ackland of Cincinnati, Ohio). He was the proud and doting Grandpa to eight grandchildren (Anna, Jameson, Jonathan, Kyla, Nathaniel, Talia, Andrew and Abigail), and three great-granddaughters (Hazel, Sage, and Josephine).
Earl was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Edna (Faxon) Ackland, his brother Marvin and sister Nancy Ann. Earl is survived by his sister Beverly and her husband Ron Scott, and his sister-in-law Joan Ackland as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Earl’s life and his homecoming will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Hauser Community Church, 69411 Wildwood Drive in North Bend, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in memory of Earl Ackland to Hauser Community Church for the Guatemala Mission Project.
Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131, 685 Anderson Avenue, Coos Bay, Oregon. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at the Coos Bay Chapel May 28, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and to sign the guestbook either at the Celebration of Life at Hauser Community Church or online at www.coosbayareafunerals.com.
