The world became a slightly dimmer place on December 15, 2025, when we lost our wife, mother, and friend, Cecilia Lattin, to cancer. Her battle was short but courageous. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Community Church, 720 N. 8th street in Lakeside.
Cecilia was born on October 3, 1947, in Astoria, Oregon, to D. Cecil and Opal Nichols. The family relocated shortly thereafter to the Bay Area, first to North Bend and eventually settling in Glasgow. She graduated from North Bend High School, class of 1965, and married C. Richard “Rick” Lattin the following year.
The couple moved to El Paso, Texas, and later to Long Branch, New Jersey, while Rick served in the Army. When he was sent to Germany to complete his enlistment, Cecilia returned home with their new baby.
As a homemaker, Cecilia was a talented seamstress who could make anything from baby blankets and winter coats to beautifully upholstered furniture cushions. She also had a gift for baking and cake decorating, creating many wedding cakes for family and friends and even entering some in the Coos County Fair just for fun. She spent countless weekends cheering on her children at sporting events and still found time to perform as a member of the Sawdust Theatre Olio cast for six seasons.
Once the children were in school, Cecilia began her career in real estate, working first with a local Century 21 office. After moving to Lakeside, she continued her career until retiring from Lakeside Real Estate.
Early retirement allowed Rick and Cecilia to travel the world together, including trips to China, Ireland, Australia, Israel, and many cruises. In later years, Cecilia became a devoted member of Lakeside Community Church, serving faithfully in many roles – always ready to help wherever there was a need.
Cecilia is survived by her husband of 59 years, Rick Lattin of Lakeside; daughter Alecia Braun and her husband Rick of Valders, Wisconsin; son, Rich Lattin and his wife Kris, of Philomath, Oregon; grandchildren, Corbin ( Callie ) Braun, Dalton Braun, Camryn Braun, Isaac Lattin and Melea Lattin; sisters, Dolores Johnson of Coos Bay, Oregon and Yvonne Smith of North Bend, Oregon; and sister-in-law, Annie Fredrickson of Sweet Home, Oregon.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Opal Nichols; her in-laws, Clarence and Alyce Lattin; sister, LaRhetta Gale; brothers-in-law Joe Gale, Bill Johnson and Don Lattin; and nephews Don Kelly and Lee Lattin.
Cecilia will be remembered as a woman of strong faith who loved to serve. A bright light with an unforgettable smile, she had a special way of showing God’s love to everyone she met. All who knew her will miss her dearly, but we find peace in knowing she is now in heaven, pain-free, and rejoicing with her Savior.
