Carl Ebben Obituary

A celebration of life for Carl John Ebben, 87, of North Bend, will be held at 1pm, Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Avenue in Coos Bay.

Carl was born September 25, 1938 in Iron River, Michigan, to Lewis Martin Ebben and Barbara Mary Ebben. He passed away on March 1, 2026.

Carl graduated from North Bend High School with the class of 1958 and went on to serve his country with pride in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. He completed basic training in San Diego, California, and attended Machinery Mate School in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was stationed aboard the USS Epping Forest in Sasebo, Japan, and later aboard the USS Magoffin in San Diego, California before his honorable separation.

On April 18, 1969, Carl married the love of his life, Kathryn Wilkinson, where he also took on the role of stepfather to her two sons. Together they built a life and family in Coos County, where Carl would remain a proud resident for over 60 years.

Carl dedicated 25 years to Georgia Pacific in Coos Bay before going on to serve the North Bend School District, from which he retired in 2001. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Carl’s greatest joy was his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was an avid woodworker who spent countless hours in his garage crafting furniture, yard décor, and handmade toys for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On rainy days, he could be found working jigsaw puzzles alongside Kathryn and settling in for a good western, best enjoyed with a generous bowl of ice cream. Carl was deeply patriotic and held great admiration and respect for all who have served in the armed forces.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn Ebben of North Bend; daughter, Barbara Buckley and son-in-law, John Buckley of North Bend; granddaughter, Tiffany Carlson and great-grandson, Ezekiel Carlson of Coos Bay; grandson, Johnathan Cooper; granddaughter-in-law, Beth Cooper and great-grandson, Knox Cooper of Coos Bay; great-granddaughters, Lexi McWilliam and Kinsley Bettencourt of Coos Bay; grandson, Michael B Teyler of Eugene; sisters, Rosemary Summers of Albany and Verna Lee of Coos Bay; and his longtime best friend, Don Smith of Cambridge, Idaho.

Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.coosbayareafunerals.com
