Bert Wilson

A memorial service for Bert Wilson, 96, of Coos Bay, will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, May 20 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road in Coos Bay. Private inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

Charles “Bert” was born September 15, 1928 in Albany, Oregon to Bert Wilson, Sr. and Luella May Bernhardt. He passed away May 3, 2025 in Coos Bay.

Bert, a lifetime resident of Coos Bay, married Nancy Johnson, also a lifetime resident of Coos Bay, November 15, 1952.  The couple welcomed daughter Sharon in 1955 and son Tom in 1956.  Bert owned a number of small businesses in Coos Bay, beginning with the Mobilgas station on Central Avenue in Coos Bay, where he also began renting travel trailers.  He then opened Bert’s Equipment Rentals while acquiring Coos Bay Sanitary Service, the commercial garbage hauling service for Coos Bay.  Several years later he opened Bert’s RV Sales and Service on Broadway in Coos Bay, which he operated with Nancy until 1989. 

Bert and Nancy moved out of town to a 13-acre property where Bert spent much of his time turning the property into a park worthy of a state park designation.  The couple enjoyed traveling in their RVs and raising their children.  They were active members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for many years.

Bert is survived by his wife, Nancy Wilson of Coos Bay; daughter, Sharon Meyer, of McMinnville; son, Tom Wilson of San Francisco, Calif.; grandson, Chris Meyer of Boulder, Colorado; granddaughter, Diane Estoista of Creedmoor, North Carolina and four great-grandchildren.
