Oscar George Olson

March 1, 1943 – July 27, 2017

A gathering of family and friends was held for Oscar “Butch” G. Olson, 74, of North Bend. Private cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.

Oscar was born on March 1, 1943, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to Vernon R. Olson and Corinne K. ( Heien ) Olson. He passed away on July 27, 2017 in Coos Bay due to natural causes.

Butch was raised in North Bend and developed a lifelong love of the outdoors and being with his family.

Butch married the love of his life, Jeannine Martin, on January 15, 1966 in Portland and they enjoyed 51 wonderful years together. They built their dream home together, in North Bend, where they raised their three daughters. Butch taught and coached for many years in his “home away from home”, room one, at Millicoma Middle School.

In retirement, Butch spent much of his time hunting, camping, collecting coins, and teaching his grandchildren the art of Lapidary. He was a dedicated family man, a loving husband, a mentor and a jokester.

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Jeannine Olson; brother, Vernon Olson; daughters, Lisa, Kathleen and Michelle and their spouses; cousins, Bruce and Carol, and Patty; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at www.coosbayareafunerals.com and www.theworldlink.com. Butch was always a man that loved to give back, therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor by contacting the Coos Bay School district office at 541-267-1310. The money raised will go to the Athletic Department to help those students that would love to participate in sports but do not have the financial means to do so. Arrangements are under the care of North Bend Chapel, 541-756-0440.
