Marjory "Ann" Langley Obituary

A private family gathering for Marjory “Ann” Langley, 92, of Coos Bay will be held at a later date. Ann will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

Ann was born June 18, 1925 in Portland, to Andrew “Andy” and Thelma (Slonaker) Akerson. She passed away peacefully St. Patrick’s Day, with loved ones near her.

In growing up, Ann worked in the family grocery store in Portland and after school working in the Portland Ship Yards supporting the World War II effort. Ann attended Oregon College of Education in Monmouth and received her degree in education. That is where she met and married Gus. They were married for 50 years. After graduation, she taught grade school in Florence and Coos Bay.

Ann was an avid gardener and owner with Gus of Lindy Lane Nursery in Coos Bay. Ann and Gus were longtime members of the Oregon Nurseryman’s Association. She was a self-taught bonsai specialist. Ann was a supporter of Choshi Gardens and active in other local community activities. Ann was an incredible cook. Her family favorite was Cajun chicken gumbo and French silk pie. In her later years, Ann and Gus enjoyed dancing, reading, gardening, her computer and spending time with close friends and family. She loved her pets.

Ann is survived by many friends and family, including sister-in-law, Helen Langley; stepdaughter, Alyce and family; foster children, Ellen Evans of North Bend, and Tom Luther of Aumsville and their families; and two very special friends, Eddie and Yvonne Williams of Coos Bay, who cared and loved her very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Dick Akerson.

Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131.
