Lois Ann Dickson

Lois Ann (Leach) Dickson, surrounded by her family, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 1, 2017 at the age of 85. She was born Oct. 26, 1932 at McAuley Hospital in Marshfield, Ore., to Granville Leach and Thelma (DeLunay) Leach.

Lois is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill Dickson; their children, Bill Dickson of Columbia City, Debbie Schade of North Bend, and Bob Dickson of Graham, Wash., Anne Gates of Fort Rock; and her sister, Mary Leach Newport of Reedsport. Lois and Bill have eight grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren scattered throughout the northwest, several nieces and nephews, and uncountable people whose life she touched with her love and friendship.

Lois spent nearly all of her life in Reedsport. When she was in sixth grade at Pioneer School she met the love of her life, Bill Dickson. She and Bill started their married life as a military couple while Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, including being stationed in the Philippines. Bill and Lois returned to Reedsport with three small children, where they settled in to raise their family. During Lois’s years working at Reedsport Union High School they met, and came to love Annie, who was added to the family.

Lois worked a few years as a secretary at Reedsport High School however, her career was primarily in the banking industry. She began working while in high school at Umpqua National Bank in downtown Reedsport as a teller. Through the years she continued to excel in banking, attended night school, and was in the first class to graduate from Southwestern Oregon Community College with her associate’s degree, something she worked very hard to achieve while raising her family. She was part of NABW and eventually was promoted as the branch manager of the Reedsport branch of Bank of America. She and Bill also were longtime members of the United Presbyterian Church in Reedsport, where she served on many committees and outreach programs

Her work was important to her and she touched many lives through her banking associations, and her church affiliations. But above all Lois loved doing things with her growing family and with her friends, including, camping, hunting, clam digging, fishing, and blackberry picking. After retirement Lois enjoyed more time on the golf course and traveling with Bill and many friends. Family gatherings were always a favorite for her. She saw the good in everyone she met. There isn’t a person whose life was not blessed by knowing her.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in Winchester Bay at the Harbor Baptist Church.
