A memorial will be held in honor of Leonard Earl Garrett, at 2 p.m., Jan. 27, 2018, at the Coquille Indian Tribe Plankhouse, 1050 Plankhouse Loop Road Coos Bay. He passed away Dec. 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. He was born Sept. 27, 1928 to Charles Emmett Garrett and Marian Wasson Garrett at Keizer Hospital in North Bend.

He was a lifelong Oregonian, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Portland. Leonard was an United States Army veteran, a proud Ko Kwel Tribal Elder and served on tribal council for many years. He was a retired longshoreman and a master sports fisherman and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his son, Robert Garrett; soulmate, Deborah Neal of Coos Bay; daughter, Susan and Roy Young of Myrtle Point; son, John and Sandra Garrett of Coos Bay; and daughter, Kathleen and Gerardo Lua of Allegany. He has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marian Garrett; wife, Carol Garrett; brothers, Leroy and John Garrett; and sister, Joan Garrett.
