Jill Elizabeth Kearns
Born: Astoria, Oregon August 9, 1941
Died: Coos Bay, Oregon July 6, 2019
Jill was the only child of Theodore James and Bertha Elizabeth Hunziker James.
The family moved to Coos Bay in the late 40s where Ted worked at “The Hub” as a men’s clothier. He had a gift of being able to put things together in a window display or a man’s wardrobe. Jill inherited her father’s flair for clothing and design.
The family moved to McMinnville, Oregon where Jill graduated from McMinnville High School in 1959. She then went on to Oregon State College where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1963. She was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Upon graduation she soon found employment as a public schools elementary teacher spending most of her teaching career at Bratton School in Springfield, Oregon. Her students loved her as she did them. One of her joys was performing as a puppeteer, which brought much pleasure to her students as well in her later life to her social clubs.
Jill was an active member of the P.E.O. and Progress Club in Coos Bay.
Two children and two grandchildren whom live in Northern Virginia survive Jill.
Jill met her husband, Paul Kearns, and married him in 1974. They brought their son, Casey, into this world. At the time of Jill’s passing Paul and Jill had been married 45 years.
Jill was a people person. Her friends were always cherished by her and in return found her to be a very special person.
She will be missed by all.
