Geneva Rae Snodgrass
August 13, 1941 – May 18, 2018
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Geneva Rae Snodgrass, 76, of North Bend, on Saturday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the Hauser Community Church, 69411 Wildwood Drive, with pastor Bill Moldt presiding. A private family inurnment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Coos Bay.
Geneva was born on August 13, 1941 in Baker City, Oregon to Lee and Elva Strong, and grew up in Bates with her younger sister and life-long friend, Jeannie. A close friendship with her cousin, Lana Abarr ( Owen ) created a strong bond that survived distance and passing years. She passed away on May 18, 2018 at her home in North Bend.
Geneva attended Pacific Business College in Portland, Oregon, to obtain a secretarial degree. She was married to Wes Sellick for five years and had two sons, Lee and Brian. After her divorce, Geneva moved to Lakeside, Oregon, where she raised her sons while working full time as a claims investigator for SAIF Corporation. She then worked as Office Manager at Lakeside Water District until she retired.
Geneva married Gene Snodgrass in 1978, so along with his three children, Luzia, Melanie, and Johnny, their blended family included five teenagers!
After retirement, Geneva took up oil painting, winning a blue ribbon in her very first show! Her paintings showed an inherent ability to capture nature in all its beauty. She loved the great outdoors and enjoyed camping and hunting in eastern Oregon with her family for 40+ years.
Geneva’s passionate love for her family was eclipsed only by her love for Jesus Christ, her Savior. Her faith strengthened her in difficult times and gave her a joy she shared with all. It was a delight to hear her hearty laughter. Playing games, finishing crossword puzzles, and reading books were a few of her favorite pleasures. Loyalty, encouragement and compassion were a few of her beautiful qualities.
Geneva is survived by her sister, Jeannie Bibbey and her husband Jack; daughter, Luzia Essner; daughter, Melanie Snodgrass ( Wayne ) ; son, Lee Sellick ( Betsy ) ; son, Brian Sellick( Chanda ) ; grandchildren, Travis, Ben, Trisha, Heidi, Valerie, Kaylynn, Kirsten, Camille, Justin and Ryan; great-granddaughter, Keilani; numerous nieces and nephews; and her lifelong BEST friend, Jeannie.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; stepson, Johnny; and husband, Gene Snodgrass in 2017.
