A memorial service for Charles “Jay” Snow, 76, of North Bend will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, at Skyline Baptist Church, 3451 Liberty St., North Bend, with pastor David Woodruff officiating.

Jay was born Jan. 26, 1941 in Moscow, Idaho, the son of Marvin and May Snow. He died after a lengthy illness Dec. 23, 2017 in Coos Bay, surrounded by family and friends. Jay’s remains will be scattered at sea at a later time.

Jay was a 1959 graduate of Clarkston High School in Clarkston, Wash. Following graduation, Jay attended Western Baptist College for a year and a half until he joined the United States Army. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany. Upon discharge from the Army, Jay returned to the Clarkston area and began to work at the Lewiston Morning Tribune.

In May 1970, Jay married Marie Harvey in Steptoe, Wash. They moved to Clarkston, Wash., and later to Asotin, Wash., where they raised their family. In 1983, Jay lost his job with the Lewiston Morning Tribune due to downsizing. In the spring of 1984, he began working at The World Newspaper in Coos Bay. In June, Jay moved his family to the Oregon coast. Jay enjoyed socializing with friends; many of whom he met while at Inland Point Assisted Living over the past three years. He made an impact on all who met him including his many caregivers at Inland Point and Avamere Rehabilitation Facility.

Jay is survived by his daughter, Kristi Snow of Coos Bay; son, Jason Snow and his wife, April of Queen Creek, Ariz.; siblings, Jean Walker of Longview, Wash. and Dick Snow and his wife, Sue of Snohomish, Wash.; as well as numerous nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Maxwell Snow; mother, Verna May Snow; nephew, James Walker; and former wife, Marie Snow.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, OR. 97420.
