Charles “Chuck” Clayton Homer was born in Belle Fourche, South Dakota to Charles Merrit and Mary Ann (Davis) Homer. He was third of four boys. The family lived in Rapid City, South Dakota until moving to Eastside, Oregon in 1964 to take advantage of the booming lumber industry. He attended elementary and middle school in Eastside, and high school at Marshfield.
He went to work for Weyerhaeuser as a choker setter and then a truck driver. In 1976, he joined his family in starting Homer Trucking that included log trucks, flatbeds, and chip trucks. With an avid interest in motorcycles, ATVs, 4x4s and racing, he soon became the lead mechanic in the family business. Chuck married Debbie Austin in 1982 and they welcomed daughter, Lisa Marie in 1984.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa and Jonathan of Clayton, California; brothers Rick and Cynthia of Springfield, Oregon, Tim and Dene of Milton-Freewater, Oregon, and Greg of Coos Bay, Oregon; niece Michelle and Julie of Eagle Point, Oregon; nephew Ron and Ardara of Vancouver, Washington; and several cousins in Oregon and South Dakota. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.
The family will hold a private memorial on May 19, 2019.
