Alvin "Butch" Dale Ferry

A memorial service for Alvin Dale Ferry Jr., 68, of Coos Bay, will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 21, at the Church of Christ, 2761 Broadway in North Bend, with pastor Norm Russell officiating. Alvin’s celebration of life will follow at the Eagles Lodge, 568 S 2nd St. in Coos Bay.

Alvin was born Jan. 24, 1950 in Ephrata, Wash., to Alvin and Ruth Ferry. He lost his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis "ALS" June 15, 2018.

Alvin spent his childhood and teenage years in Cashmere, Wash., where he graduated from high school in 1968. In high school, Alvin met the love of his life Marsha Brewer and they were married Feb. 7, 1969. In their almost 50 years of marriage, they had three beautiful daughters.

Alvin, referred to by most as "Butch", loved spending time with his family. He never met a person he did not like and striking up conversations came easily usually involving a joke or two. Sports were a passion and a hobby to Alvin. He enjoyed playing football, volleyball and basketball and loved watching teams such as the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers. He loved cruising the streets in his Mustang convertible blaring classic rock hits such as "Wild Thing" and "Gypsy."

Alvin was loved by many. While he is physically no longer with us, his spirit will live in all of us forever.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha; oldest daughter, Tracy Mahan, husband, Jason and children, Sophia and Abby; middle daughter, Jackie Souza, husband, Bryan and children, Deven and Dakoda; youngest daughter, Misty Howerton, husband, Dewey, and children, Keizer and Dawson; honorary son, Branden Enstrom; sisters, Terry Ricketts, husband, Roger and family, Carol Harlow, husband, Tom and family, and Cathy Jensen, husband, Dennis and family; brother, Jeff Ferry, wife, Eileen and family; mother-in-law, Margaret Harper; brothers-in-law, Mike Brooker, wife, Elizabeth and family and Bill Leslie, wife, Barbie and family; best friend and cousin, Robert Ferry and family; and co-brother-in-law, Brian Harlow, wife, Helen and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider making contributable donations to The ALS Association Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter, 700 NE Multnomah St., Suite 210 Portland, OR 97232 to further research to find a cure for ALS.
