Lawrence "Larry" Bradley Wood Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Bradley Wood, 70, of Coos Bay, Oregon went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 22, 2024. He was born on February 6th, 1954, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Robert and Maxine (Vincent) Wood, the third of their six children. He was the literal embodiment of having a heart of gold. Larry had a knack for drawing people into a conversation and making them feel special and loved in a matter of minutes. He touched so many lives and would happily regale you with his astonishing experiences, having you laughing along with him before the conversation was over. He will be missed by the many people he met and loved over the years.

Larry lived in multiple states at various points in his life: Michigan, Louisiana, Washington and Oregon. Growing up, he enjoyed scouting, hiking, camping, fishing, traveling, and playing in the neighborhood. He graduated with the class of ‘72 from West Linn High School, in Oregon. As an adult, he was active in Special Olympics winning more than 100 medals in track and field, softball, golf, skiing, and bowling. As a Special Olympian, he competed at the 1999 Special Olympics World Games in Raleigh, NC, coming away with an individual gold medal in bowling.

Larry enjoyed being involved in local theater and volunteering his time. Later in life, he attended Sea Cove and Star of Hope in Coos Bay meeting new people, working and taking excursions. He made friends wherever he went. Most of all, he loved being with his family and friends, playing card or board games, putting together puzzles, or just being with them.

Larry was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and always found joy, peace, and community within the walls of the church. He could be found at service on Sundays no matter where he lived.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings Roseanne (Steven) Doane, Douglas (Kathleen) Wood, Gregory (Elizabeth) Wood, Linda (Dean) Talboy, and Bryan (Peggy) Wood. He was a favorite uncle to his many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children. His life will be celebrated on May 4th at 2 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Rd, Coos Bay, Oregon, 97420. He will be laid to rest with his parents and grandparents at a later time in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Clio, Michigan.
