A memorial service for Virginia “Jinnie” Lou Slaney, 90, of Coos Bay will be held 11:00 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at Greenacres Community Church 93512 Greenacres Lane with Pastor Tom Stroud officiating.  Cremation rites have been held at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematory, Coos Bay.

Virginia was born March 1, 1927 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Harold Francis and Rose Marguerite (Witt) Slaney. She died November 18, 2017 in Coos Bay.

In her childhood, she lived in Chicago, Ill., Portland and Milwaukie, Ore.  She graduated from Milwaukie Union High School in 1945 and from the University of Oregon in 1949.  Virginia attended Oregon College of Education for three summers, and took graduation courses at Multnomah School of the Bible.  She taught in several Oregon public schools including, Butte Falls High School, Dayton Grade School, Myrtle Creek-Tri City School and high school, Portland public schools and Coos Bay schools.  For about five years she taught missionary kids in the Philippines for Wycliffe Bible Translator.  She was a member of Greenacres Community Church and Headles and Treadles weavers guild.

She is survived by her close friends and extended family.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Beverly J. Nelson.
