Nellie Marie Graham

A memorial service will be held for Nellie “Marie” Graham, 88, of Coos Bay at 1 p.m. April 1, 2017 at Ocean Ridge Assisted Living, 1855 Ocean Blvd. SE, in Coos Bay.

Marie was born April 3, 1928, in Rome, Tenn. to William and Icey Octavia Hayes. She passed away peacefully  Jan. 1, 2017, in Coos Bay.

Marie grew up in Rome, Tenn., the seventh of nine children. She was baptized at the Belmont Heights Baptist Church in Nashville at age 12. She lived in Nashville, Tenn., until she was 17 years old.

At 17, she moved to Norfolk, Va., with her two older sisters, Nina and Frances, and worked for the munitions depot as a clerk typist during the last year of World War II. She then went to work for Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company as an operator. Marie attended beauty school in Boise, Idaho, was a lunch counter clerk in a department store, and a dress shop manager for Rasame Dress Shop and Veta Moss Dress Shop in Ocean Beach, Calif. She was the past president of TOPS club in San Diego, Calif. During her life she lived in Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, Idaho, California, and Oregon.

She married Irvin Stuker in Portsmouth, Va., and their son, Chris Stuker was born Dec. 20, 1947 in Norfolk, Va. They later divorced and she married Richard N. Graham Sr. in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and their son, Richard N. Graham Jr. was born July 5, 1963 in San Diego, Calif. She moved to North Bend in 1980. She attended Hauser Community Church for 25 years.

Over the years, Marie enjoyed Bible studies, garden clubs, silk flower making, and oil paintings. She sold some of her paintings at local craft shows held at Pony Village Mall. Her family, both near and far, were very important to her. She loved keeping in touch with her friends and family who lived far away through phone calls. She was very close to her grandchildren Alan and Scott Stuker, Jenna and Randall Graham, and her great-grandchildren, Michael and Iris.

Marie survived by her son, Chris Stuker and his wife, Debby of Gilroy, Calif.; her son, Richard Graham and wife, Sandi of Terrebonne; grandson, Alan Stuke of Gilroy, Calif.; granddaughter, Jenna Graham of Terrebonne; grandson, Randall Graham of Redmond; niece, Donna Pietrzak of El Cajon, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews across the United States.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands, parents, brothers and sisters and grandson, Scott Stuker.

Thank you to all who played a supportive role in Marie’s life through the years. She cherished and prayed daily for all her family and friends.

Cremation rites and inurnment will be held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131.
