A Funeral Mass will be held for Marion E. Babcock, 88, of Coos Bay on Friday, March 23rd at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Monica Catholic Church, 357 S. 6th Street in Coos Bay, with Father Henry Rufo presiding. A reception will follow in the parish hall. A graveside committal will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Ocean View Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1525 Ocean Boulevard in Coos Bay.

Marion was born on September 25, 1929 in Paterson, New Jersey to Edward Tacq and Mary ( VanSteenkiste ) Tacq. She passed away peacefully on March 11, 2018 in Portland at the home of her daughter.

Marion grew up in Little Falls, New Jersey. She attended Caldwell College, and then St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. She met and married Joseph Babcock on February 3, 1951 and together they raised five children.

Marion worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. In 1971 the family made the move to Oregon. She was devoted to service; teaching religious education at Saint Monica’s and visiting the sick in the hospital every Wednesday. She also volunteered at the Charleston Visitor’s Center, the SMART program at a local grade school and was a member of the Friends of Shore Acres and the Garden Club.

Marion is survived by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all will miss her dearly.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Tacq; and her husband, Joseph C. Babcock in 1990.

Memorial contributions may be made in Marion’s honor to Saint Monica Catholic Church, the Alzheimer’s Research Association or to the Diabetes Research Association.
