Maria Emma Cheney

A memorial service for Maria Emma Cheney, 73, of Lakeside, will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2741 Sherman Ave. in North Bend, with pastor Israel Jurich, officiating. Private cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.

Maria was born Dec. 3, 1944 in Neustadt, Germany to Fritz and Hildegard Wipfel. She passed away Feb. 18, 2018 in Coos Bay.

Maria was an amazing and strong woman. She came to the states not knowing any English. She made a life for her and her children through determination and hard work, despite circumstances that were often challenging and difficult. She was deeply devoted to her loved ones whether they be immediate family, adopted family, or friends. She spent her later life caring for the elderly. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Cheney; sons, Don Wipfel and family, Brian Culverwell and family, Bobby Cheney and family; daughters, Christina Coughlin and family, Sheila Weaver and family, and Tina Wood and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Christina; and daughter, Rose.

Memorial contributions can be made in Maria’s name to Faith Lutheran Church, 2741 Sherman Ave., North Bend, OR 97459.
