Leonard “Mac” McKinzie

April 4, 1951 – Jan. 8, 2017

A gathering to celebrate the life of Leonard “Mac” McKinzie, 65, of North Bend, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Coos Bay Eagles Lodge, 568 S. Second St., in Coos Bay.

Mac was born in Dallas, Ore., April 4, 1951 to Charles C. McKinzie and June I. (Carter) McKinzie. He passed away peacefully at his home in North Bend Jan. 8, 2017.

Mac grew up and attended schools in Coos Bay and Grants Pass. In 1970, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Guadalcanal and the USS Piedmont during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1976.

Mac returned to Coos Bay and became a service writer for various car dealerships. He then went to truck driving school in Portland and began his career as a truck driver. He retired at the age of 62 and enjoyed his time at home. He took pleasure in hunting, restoring cars, watching football and spending time with his family, friends and felines.

Mac is survived by his lifelong partner, Sue Steinert; sister, Robin Wright and her husband, Steve; sister, Zondra Lobato; sister, Katheryn McKinzie; sister, Gwen Morrison and her husband, David; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mac was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mac had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind and gentle soul. He will be truly missed.
