A chapel funeral service will be held for Joyce Ann Cordova, 86, of Coos Bay, on Saturday, August 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the North Bend Chapel, 2014 McPherson Avenue, with Kermit Gaston of the Bandon Restoration Worship Center presiding. A private family graveside committal will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Coos Bay. A public visitation will be held on Friday, August 25th from 10-5 p.m. at the chapel.

Joyce was born on January 15, 1931 in Madina, Tennessee to Kenneth K. Bolton and Mamie L. ( Conell ) Bolton. In recent years she lived on the North Coast of Oregon and in the Portland area with her daughters. She came home to Coos Bay to visit family, where she peacefully passed away on August 14th, surrounded by loved ones.

Joyce and her 12 siblings were part of a farming family. Growing up she worked in the fields picking cotton to help her family. She left school at the age of 17 to work as a waitress. That is where she met the love of her life and future husband, Bevallin Franklin Cordova Jr, known as “Joe”. They were married within a year of dating and moved to Fort Benning, Georgia, where they started their military life and family. All five of their children were born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The family was stationed in Kansas, and later Germany. They eventually returned to Coos Bay in 1968 while Bevallin was deployed in Vietnam.

Joyce worked as a telephone operator with MaBell for 10 years and retired from GTE after 25 years. In retirement, Joyce and Bevallin traveled to Utah and the East Coast visiting family. Joyce was an avid gardener. She would stop roadside to dig up new plants for her garden. Her favorite hobby was sewing. She made the wedding dresses for all of her daughters. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce’s loving family, on earth and in Heaven, whom met the world to her, includes her husband, Bevallin “Joe” Franklin Cordova Jr.; children, Beverly Cordova, Leland and Lynn Cordova, Emeline and Steve Hartley, Loretta and Ken Carlson and Clinton Cordova; grandchildren, Jacob Richmond, Peter Richmond, Katie Richmond, William Richmond, Nicholas Smith, Jason Cordova, Chasity and Richard Denton, Bevallin Daniel and Lori Cordova, Aaron Hartley, Melissa Hartley, Rachel and Jeremy Price, Matthew Carlson, Cody Carlson, Megan Hoppe, Jesse Hoppe and KC Dillon Cordova; great-grandchildren, Marah Richmond, Victoria Cordova, Ivan Cordova, Braden Denton, Carter Cordova, Kendall Cordova and Trillian Price; and numerous extended family members.
