A memorial mass for Isabel "Chavelo" De La Cruz, 90, of North Bend will be held at noon, Saturday, September 30 at Saint Monica Catholic Church, 357 S. 6th Street in Coos Bay.  Private cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.

Isabel was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Robbins, Calif. to Gallalano and Jennie (Surbantis) De La Cruz.  He passed away August 22 at his home in North Bend.

In 1968, Isabel married Hermila Olivo; they were happily married for 49 years.

Isabel worked on the railroad, retiring in 1988 after 40 years, 37 of which were spent with the Southern Pacific Lines.

He was an active member of Habitat for Humanity with over 10 years of dedicated service, a volunteer service member for the Department of Veteran Affairs; serving 1,669 hours and one year (2001-2002) and an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Coos Bay Lodge since 1974.

He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.

Isabel is survived by his daughters, Kristina De La Cruz of Coos Bay and Alicia Salazar Kuncz and husband, Tim Kuncz of San Diego, Calif.; grandsons, Rylyn Dodd, Kcy and Austyn Tavernier all of Coos Bay; grandaughters, Celestina and Adina Kuncz of San Diego, Calif., and Carmen Kuncz of Seattle, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hermila De La Cruz; and step-son, Rudy Salazar.
