Jess was born June 16, 1940. He went to the Lord on September 13, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.

Jess moved to Coos Bay in 1961 with his family and worked at Georgia Pacific as a millwright for 19 years and also worked at Roseburg Lumber for 22 years.

He was always willing to help others when needed and was a “jack of all trades”. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Patricia Barnett; two sons, Gregory and wife, Lisa and Douglas and wife, Dena Barnett; brother, Simon Barnett; sisters, Frances Thompson and Nannie Dennison; three grandchildren, Nicklas, Joshua and Andrew Barnett; two great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jess was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Barnett Grantham of Florida; father, Jess Barnett of Norton, Virginia; four sisters; three brothers and great-granddaughter, Adaline Danille Barnett.

A chapel service was held at 1pm, Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson in Coos Bay, Oregon with Pastor Mark Schiro, officiating. The family received friends at the chapel from 12-1:00pm before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please support South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson road in Coos Bay. Graveside services will be held at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, Virginia at a later date.
