A Chapel funeral service to celebrate the life of Elaine Parrish, 89, of North Bend, will be held on 1:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 24th at the North Bend Chapel, 2014 McPherson Avenue, with Steve Watson officiating. A private family graveside committal will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Coos Bay.
Elaine was born on Feb. 10, 1928 in Verona, Miss. to Zollie Johnson and Irene (Priest) Johnson. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at the Avemere Care facility in Coos Bay in the evening of Nov. 18, 2017.
Elaine is survived by her son, Grady Frank Johnson, of Coos Bay; daughter, Nancy Plunkett and her husband, Jon Opfell, of Sonoma, Calif.; daughter, Joyce Palmer and her husband, Don Palmer of Mammoth Creek, Utah; daughter, Hollie Rudder of Utah; Elaine shared a uniquely special relationship with her sister, JoNell Oaks, and her husband, Wes Oaks, of North Bend, that defined the sisterly bond of love, compassion and eternal love. Elaine is also survived by her brother, Clyde Johnson and his wife, Claudette Johnson; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hammon, Sarah Iverson, Christopher Hall and Grady Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; devoted niece, Sherry Oaks; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Zollie Johnson; brother, Harold Johnson; granddaughter, Heidi Johnson; and nephew, Curtis Bohannon.
Elaine will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful mother and matriarch of her family, cherished were her exceptional culinary skills, usually which was inclusive of items gleaned from her vegetable garden.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Elaine’s dear daughter, Joyce, for the love and care given in her final days.
