A memorial service to celebrate the life of Edith May Brown, 93, of North Bend, will be held on Thursday, July 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 2420 Sherman Avenue in North Bend, with pastors Jim and Sharron Kay Womack presiding. An inurnment will take place at JW Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings at a later date.
Edith was born on May 9, 1924 in Haines, Oregon to John L. Reed and Iva E. ( Loftus ) Reed. She passed away peacefully on July 15, 2017 in Coos Bay.
Edith graduated from high school in Chiloquin, Oregon. During her working years she was a nurses aide, an assistant manager of a variety store, was a receptionist and bookkeeper for 10 years for a construction company and held many other jobs as well. She enjoyed church activities, craftwork, playing cards, board games and puzzles.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Edith is survived by her son, William D. Brooks and his wife Anita, of Chiloquin; daughter, Beverly A. Brooks of Coos Bay; son, Dave Brooks and his wife, Carolyn of Pueblo, CO; son, James P. Brown and his wife, Delite of Douglas, WY; sister, Elizabeth Scanlon of Redmond; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, John and Iva Reed; two husbands, William D. Brooks in 1949 and James Brown in 1988; brothers, Ray and Jim Reed; and sisters, Lovetha Noah, Irene Lefley and Ruth Thompson.
