Charlotte Walker Jennings

February 27, 1936 – November 13, 2017

A private family graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Coos Bay to celebrate the life of Charlotte W. Jennings, 81, of Bandon. She passed away peacefully on November 13th in Coos Bay, with her family at her side.

Charlotte was born in El Paso, Texas to parents Helen and George Walker, and spent most of her childhood working with her family on a ranch near Center Point, Texas. She loved riding her horse, Double Grand, and caring for orphaned or injured animals on the property. She was a gifted student, and a fierce competitor at high school basketball. She attended Mary Baldwin University and Incarnate Word College; graduating in just three years with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. She later went to work for Celanese Corporation as a chemist.

Charlotte met Bob Jennings on a blind date in 1955, and spent many happy weekends dancing and honky-tonking in Bandera that summer. She was his yellow rose of Texas. They later married, and flew to Germany where he was serving as an army pilot. They were stationed all over the United States for the next 20 years, moving 21 times as part of life in the military. Charlotte was a loving, nurturing mother to three. She also opened her home and heart to her children’s friends. Those needing a little TLC or a shoulder to lean on could be found at the kitchen table with mom. Her legacy was her time spent making delicious meals, helping with homework, and cheering on her kids at school and sporting events. Later in life, she became a talented stained glass artist, making beautiful pieces for the family as well as commissioned works for others. She and Bob returned to Center Point, Texas after he retired from the military to help care for her aging parents. They ranched for a few years, raising a small herd of cattle and working a large garden.

Charlotte loved the Oregon coast, having discovered it while she and Bob traveled in their RV in later years. Her favorite activity was to watch the waves and pelicans, eat fresh Dungeness crab with a cold glass of Pinot Gris, followed by a rich chocolate dessert. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but especially by her husband Bob of 60 years, her three children Bob, Alane and William, her younger sister Kate, and her grandchildren Jackson, Brittany, Ben and Aiden.

Friends and family are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at www.coosbayareafunerals.com and www.theworldlink.com. Arrangements are under the care of North Bend Chapel, 541-756-0440.
