A mass of Christian burial for Barbara Elizabeth Fellows Liggett, 78, of Coos Bay, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2250 16th street in North Bend, with Father Henry Rufo, officiating.  A private family burial will be held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.

Barbara was born Feb. 12, 1939 in Chiloquin, Ore. to Leroy “Jack” and Louise Denhardt Fellows.  She passed away Nov. 24, 2017 in Coos Bay.

The family, which included a sister, Madeline “Jackie” and brother, Roger, lived in Klamath Falls until 1946 when they moved to the Hauser area, to the Devereux Mill Camp at Hauser next to her cousins, the Denhardt family.

In 1955, Barbara met the love of her life, John Charles “Corky” Liggett.  Corky and Barbara married Feb. 5, 1955.

Barbara worked for Georgia Pacific Mill in Coos Bay from 1964 to 1978, working both the spreaders and the dryers.  In 1978, she developed an allergy to fir dust and was rehabilitated.  She attended SWOCC and earned two associate degrees, holding a 4.00 GPA.  She was a member of the National Honor Society.

After graduating, Barbara went to work for Christianson Trucking Company as a legal secretary, retiring in 1980.

Barbara’s greatest joy was her six children, seventeen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, from the moment they took their first breath until she passed from this earth.  She learned to become a mediator, a story-teller and so much more.  She was a medic on the field with many scrapes and broken bones and on occasion, she removed pellets from children who had pellet guns.  You could always find Barbara watching her children perform in school activities, football games, choir performances and so much more.

You always knew if you stopped by the Liggett family home at dinner time, an extra plate would be set for you.  Often Barbara prepared seafood brought home by her husband Corky.  They always said no one would ever leave their home hungry.

Barbara and Corky took many trips up the coast, a time that Barbara enjoyed so much.  Barbara loved to play Bingo, but most of all she enjoyed winning and taking a little money home in her pocket.

Barbara never spoke an ill word about anyone.  She loved the door opening and one or more of children or grandchildren stopping by to share a few moments of the day.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Chuck Liggett of North Bend, Ronald and Stephanie Liggett of Eugene, and Robert and Virginia Liggett of Coos Bay; daughters, Vickie Bull of Lakeside, Dianne Jackson of Coos Bay and Kathleen Robinson of Longview, Wash.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and brother, Roger of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Corky Liggett; her parents, Jack and Louise Fellows; and sister, Madeline “Jackie” Rosenquist.

As the evening falls and if we listen closely, we will hear the laughter of the young girl who spent hours growing up in Hauser, the young bride who said “I do”, and the loving mother who raised six children.  She leaves us with warm memories that will last a life time.  We know now that she is sitting on the edge of a cloud looking down on us.  We will feel her watching us in the breath of the wind and the warmth of the sun.

Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131. Friends and family are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at www.coosbayareafunerals.com
